The
Mahavishnu Project: Phase 2
The Mahavishnu
Project have just released the long awaited follow-up to their
critically acclaimed premiere release Live Bootleg.
Recorded during the band’s 2003 tour, PHASE
2 contains two and a half hours of live material
on two discs, vividly documenting the raw power of a band
with a mission. PHASE
2 features fresh, visceral interpretations of
tunes culled from The Mahavishnu Orchestra’s classic
‘70’s recordings – Birds of
Fire, The Inner Mounting Flame and
Visions of The Emerald Beyond.
“We decided to do another live disc because we realize
that this music is all about the energy of live performance”,
says drummer/founder Gregg Bendian. “And with
any form of jazz, it’s in concert that the music comes
to life. Each night, we strive to reach the next level
of expression and execution. Mahavishnu music demands
it, and I think PHASE 2 captures
that energy.” |
